How MealLoop handles your personal data

MealLoop is a nutrition planning product for recipes, meal plans, diary logging, nutrition targets, shopping lists, and household collaboration. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, when we share it, and the choices you have across the MealLoop web app and mobile apps.

Last updated August 24, 2026

Account data

When you sign in with Google, MealLoop receives basic account details such as your name, email address, provider ID, and profile image when available.

Nutrition workflow data

We store the data you create in MealLoop, including recipes, foods, diary entries, nutrition goals, meal plans, shopping lists, onboarding settings, and household or group sharing data.

Billing and purchases

If you subscribe to a paid plan on web, payment processing is handled by Stripe. MealLoop stores billing status and subscription metadata, not full payment card numbers.

1. Information we collect

The information we collect depends on how you use MealLoop.

  • Account and sign-in data. If you sign in with Google, we receive basic profile information associated with that sign-in, such as your name, email address, provider user ID, and profile image if the provider makes it available.
  • Profile and preference data. This can include onboarding answers, nutrition goals, preferred language, food database choices, pantry settings, and similar account preferences.
  • Content you create. This includes recipes, imported recipe content, ingredient mappings, custom foods, diary entries, meal plans, shopping lists, favorite meals, group memberships, and other content you save in MealLoop.
  • Meal-photo estimates. If you choose this mobile feature, the meal photo you select is processed for that request but is not stored by MealLoop. If you review and save the result, we store only the structured food names, estimated amounts, assumptions, confidence levels, and nutrition values that make up the diary entry.
  • Billing and subscription data. If you use a paid plan, we receive billing status, plan information, and related identifiers from Stripe. Full payment card numbers are handled by Stripe, not stored by MealLoop.
  • Technical and usage data. We may process limited technical data such as IP address, browser or device details, timestamps, request metadata, session data, and error information needed to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the service.
  • Mobile testing interest. If you join the mobile testing list, we store your email address, selected platform, page language, consent time, and, when applicable, the public recipe page that led you to the form.

2. How we use your information

  • Create and secure your account across the web and mobile apps.
  • Sync your recipes, planner, diary, shopping lists, and shared household data.
  • Calculate nutrition totals, support meal planning, and preserve your preferences.
  • Process subscriptions, manage plan status, and prevent fraud or misuse.
  • Operate recipe import and AI-assisted features when you choose to use them.
  • Respond to support requests, debug issues, and improve reliability and security.
  • Contact people who explicitly register their interest in MealLoop mobile testing.

3. Shared groups and public recipes

If you use MealLoop group features, the recipes, meal plans, shopping lists, custom foods, and related content you choose to share may be visible to other members of that shared group. Please only share information you are comfortable making available to those collaborators.

If you publish a recipe, its recipe page becomes available to anyone with the link and may be indexed by search engines. The page includes the recipe content, image, nutrition summary, and original source link when present, but does not show your MealLoop profile or identify you as the creator. You can unpublish it to revoke the public URL. Search-engine caches may take additional time to disappear.

Signed-in MealLoop users can save an independent copy of a public recipe. That copy belongs to their account and is not removed when you later edit or unpublish the public version.

4. AI-assisted and import features

MealLoop includes features such as recipe import and AI-assisted ingredient mapping, as well as optional meal-photo nutrition estimates. When you use those features, recipe text, uploaded files, images, or related instructions may be sent to third-party processing providers strictly to return the requested result inside MealLoop.

We use only the information needed to complete the feature you requested and to support the resulting recipe or nutrition workflow in your account.

Meal-photo requests use AI Gateway routing configured for zero data retention, so the gateway only routes the request to eligible providers that do not retain the prompt, photo, or generated response. MealLoop processes the photo in memory and does not save it to its servers or attach it to your diary. The reviewed structured estimate is saved only when you explicitly choose to save it.

5. When we share information

  • With service providers that help us operate MealLoop, such as hosting, database, authentication, file storage, payment, and infrastructure vendors.
  • With Google when you use it to sign in.
  • With Stripe for payment processing, invoices, subscription management, and fraud prevention.
  • With AI or automation providers when you choose recipe import, ingredient mapping, or meal-photo estimation and the requested feature requires text or an image to be processed.
  • With members of your household or shared group when you intentionally use collaborative features.
  • When required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of MealLoop, our users, or others.

MealLoop does not sell your personal information as part of a data broker model.

6. Retention

We keep personal data for as long as needed to provide MealLoop, maintain your account, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our terms. Some content may remain in backups or logs for a limited period after deletion.

Mobile testing registrations are retained while we run or prepare the testing programme, unless you ask us to remove your registration sooner. Email the support address below to withdraw from the list.

If you close your account or request deletion, we will delete or de-identify data within a reasonable timeframe unless we need to retain certain information for security, fraud prevention, accounting, tax, or legal compliance reasons.

7. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal data against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, and alteration. No system can guarantee absolute security, so you should also use strong sign-in protections on the Google account connected to MealLoop.

8. Your choices and rights

  • Access, update, or delete profile information and app content you control inside MealLoop.
  • Request deletion of your account and associated personal data, subject to legal or operational retention requirements.
  • Ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you where required by applicable law.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing where applicable law gives you that right.
  • Manage cookies or browser storage through your browser settings where relevant.

You can delete your account and all associated data directly inside MealLoop at any time from Profile → Danger zone → Delete account (web and mobile). If you can no longer sign in, you can request deletion through our account & data deletion page.

9. International processing

MealLoop and its service providers may process personal data in countries other than the one where you live. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for cross-border data transfers.

10. Children's privacy

MealLoop is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data directly from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal data to MealLoop, please contact us so we can review and remove it where appropriate.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as MealLoop evolves, including when we add features, change providers, or respond to legal requirements. When we do, we will update the effective date shown at the top of this page.
